The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is a high performing and continually improving local authority. Located on the banks of the River Thames, Richmond is arguably the most attractive borough in London to both live and work.

The Finance and Corporate Services directorate operates at the very core of the Council’s operations. The continued financial health of the authority is vital to the provision of all its services and the range and diversity of our activities.

To continue with this high performance two posts are now available within the Central Debt Recovery team. One post is a 12 month fixed term post, whilst the other is full time.

The main purpose of the role is to recover debt owed to the council across a wide range of service areas. Key tasks include customer contact, telephone debt chasing, and targeting of service areas. Dependent on experience and knowledge the right person will process cases to court, although training will be given.

Ideally you should have an understanding of invoicing customers and collecting debts. Specific knowledge of SAP is not necessary as on the job training will be given.

Richmond Council is continually reviewing its ways of working in order to provide the best services possible for residents, in the most efficient way. As a result the key tasks in any role may be varied and the post holder will be expected to take on such variations within the constraints of the grade and the level of responsibility.

The Royal Borough of Kingston is one of the top-performing London boroughs in waste and recycling. Last year our residents recycled and composted 47% of their waste, and we’re continuing to push towards achieving 50% and beyond.

To reach this goal whilst also providing excellent waste services, we need outstanding members of staff. We are a growing team; we currently have three permanent posts but are expanding to meet the demands of the Council’s financial savings programme. As part of this programme, Waste will be responsible for delivering £3.8m of strategically significant savings over the next three years.

We’re looking for an expert statistician who will be able to take the lead on collecting, organising, manipulating and reporting on our complex waste data. You will also be responsible for our statutory reporting to Waste Data Flow.

The reports and forecasts you provide will be extremely valuable and a crucial part of all aspects of our cost-savings work. You will contribute heavily to this cost-savings work, and will need to have excellent communication skills to complement your statistical expertise.

You’ll need to be motivated and keen to take on responsibilities. You’ll also need to be able to use your initiative when the situation demands it, and be able to work efficiently both on your own and as part of a close, friendly team.

In return, we’re offering a senior-level post, which recognises the value of your experience and provides you with an excellent opportunity to expand on your first-rate knowledge and skills.

Kingston is a great place to live and work. You can read more about the area and the council’s performance in Destination Kingston (http://www.kingston.gov.uk/destination_kingston_2011-2015.pdf). You’ll note in this publication that waste and recycling is held up as a shining example of some of the council’s best work in recent years. Wouldn’t you like to be involved?

Closing date: 06 February 2012

Provisional interview date: During weeks commencing 13th and/or 20th February 2012
