Recruitment

How do Mendip District Council recruit new employees into the organisation?

Job Applications

All vacancies are advertised on our website and Job Descriptions, Person Specifications and our Application Form are available to view and download.

Equal Opportunities Monitoring

Please complete and return this form with your application, it will be treated as confidential and used to monitor the fairness of our recruitment practices and to ensure that the Authority’s equal opportunities information on employees is kept up to date. It will not be sent to the short listing panel and will not influence your application in any way.

The questionnaire is self classification; it is for you to determine how you answer the questions.

Shortlisting

A shortlist of candidates to be called for interview is drawn up through matching applicants with the criteria identified in the Person Specification. Successful applicants are normally contacted with interview details one week prior to the interview date. Applicants who have not been contacted within four weeks of the closing date should assume that their application has not been successful. If you wish to receive acknowledgement that we have received your application, please enclose a stamped addressed postcard for us to return to you.

Interviewing

The arrangements for interviewing will vary depending upon the level of the post. All applicants invited for interview will be notified in advance of the timetable for the day.

Most recruitment processes will include Personality Profiling, Psychometric Tests and often candidates will also be required to make a presentation or to undertake a case study. All applicants will be required to participate in a structured panel interview.

A combination of the above assessments is used to match the most suitable candidate with the requirements of the post.

Job Offers

All job offers are made subject to receipt of Medical Clearance, evidence to confirm applicant has permission to work and satisfactory references, certain posts also require clearance by the Criminal Records Bureau.
