<p><strong>Job Description</strong></p>

<p><strong>Location:</strong> Town Hall Extension, Argyle Street, London. WC1H 8NP</p>
<p><strong>Team:</strong> Culture and Environment Directorate / Regeneration and Planning</p>
<p>As the Principal Environmental Health Officer in the Food Safety Team you will take the lead on a full range of Food and Health and Safety enforcement case work, and will include an understanding of the Food Safety Act 1990, Food Law Code of Practice (England) and the Health and Safety at Work Act etc. You will need to ensure you are up to date with all new relevant legislation and advice relative to the work area and act as the lead for projects with responsibility for investigation, enforcement and management of complex casework, including policies, research, programmed inspections and service requests. You will also prepare specifications, reports, notices, and schedules in line with prosecutions for failure to comply with statutory instruments where appropriate. One of the key aspects of the role is to provide a high level of customer service and investigate formal complaints from service users, stakeholders and senior officers within agreed timescales.</p>
<p>As part of your role you will contribute and lead on performance measurement and reporting of national and corporate agenda/objectives concerning public health, the environment, and consumer protection. This will involve the preparation of performance reports to ensure external and internal targets are met and delivered to a high standard, with agreed timeframes. As the Principal Environmental Health Officer you will be responsible for working with policies and procedures within the council to address the nature of work in terms of type and size of premises against the risks this poses to the residents, workers and visitors to the Camden area.</p>
<p><strong>Key Requirements</strong></p>
<p>Qualifications/Knowledge:</p>
<ul>
<li>BSc/Msc degree or the equivalent in Environmental Health</li>
<li>EHORB registered as an Environmental Health Officer is essential</li>
<li>Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation and legal procedures and have the ability to prepare reports and specifications in relation to this</li>
<li>Knowledge of enforcement action for failure to comply with requirements of legislation and statutory notices</li>
</ul>
<p>Skills/Behaviours:</p>
<ul>
<li>Excellent observational and investigation skills</li>
<li>Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing at all levels with internal and external organisations</li>
<li>Ability to interpret technical drawings and reports</li>
<li>Proven ability in preparing detailed specifications of works, notices, plans, reports and formal enforcement action is essential</li>
<li>Good organisational and prioritising skills as to produce high quality work within a given timescale and agreed targets</li>
<li>Ability to take responsibility for self development and contribute to the development of other staff by identifying appropriate development opportunities</li>
</ul>
<p>Experience:</p>
<ul>
<li>Experience in working at a senior level on complex food cases with proven experience to serve prohibition notices, closing premises and leading on complex food prosecution cases</li>
<li>Experience in taking enforcement action for failure to comply with requirements of appropriate legislation and statutory notices.</li>
<li>Proven project management experience with successful outcomes</li>
<li>Experience of writing and interpreting complex and technical documentation for a variety of audiences</li>
</ul>

<p>You will be part of a team and will have access to direction, support and supervision from a qualified practitioner.</p>
<p>You will work in partnership with individuals, their carers, professional staff in other agencies, service providers and Support Brokers in order to support vulnerable adults and their families to identify and arrange services that meet their needs and promote independence, choice and control.</p>
<p>You will hold a caseload of individuals and carers who will generally have a support plan in place that requires routine monitoring. You will have frequent direct contact with the public on the phone as well as visiting them in their own home or care setting.</p>
<p>Successful applicants will enjoy working with people and have experience of direct work with the public. You will need to have competent basic IT skills and be able and willing to learn to use a variety of software systems. All short-listed applicants will be required to complete an IT assessment as part of the interview process. You will have to travel to sites within Surrey as well as to other parts of the country and so it is essential that you have the ability to travel around Surrey.</p>
<p>The post holder will be expected to work with any combination, or all, of the following care groups: older people, people with physical, sensory, cognitive impairments, people with a learning disability and people with mental health problems.</p>
