The expectation of an environmental health officer..
- To advise on housing conditions, legal duties and undertake food inspections.
- Investigate causes of any disease’s spreading and taking preventative action against them.
- Informing the authorities about any such ‘outbreaks’ and how to handle such cases, also advising them on the best course of action to prevent recurrences in the future.
- Visiting and assessing public places in able to maintain high standards of hygiene. In the case of repeat offenders against environmental health, be prepared to give evidence in court.

- Be able to combine the use of investigative skills and comprehension of technical and legal information.
- Have good team working skills and sensitivity to others
- Use interpersonal skills to manage difficult situations
