<p>Lymington &amp; Pennington is an attractive and historic town of 15,000 residents. It has an impressive Georgian centre and is a world-renowned sailing venue on the Solent. It is very close to the southern edge of the New Forest, now a National Park.</p>
<p>The Council runs a very popular Charter street market on Saturdays. It is responsible for approximately 200 acres of recreational open space and sports fields, plus other amenity areas and buildings, including a unique open air lido. The Council currently has 15 employees including two market superintendants and nine outside staff, whose supervisor reports directly to the Town Clerk. The total annual turnover of Lymington &amp; Pennington Town Council is approximately £750,000. There are fifteen Councillors and the Mayor is also Chairman of the Council.</p>
<p>The Council wishes to recruit an individual having the following assets: </p>
<ul>
<li>Previous experience of local government management</li>
<li>Understanding of local government finance and budgeting</li>
<li>Capacity to review and restructure staffing</li>
<li>Capacity to introduce a rolling programme of staff performance management</li>
<li>Ability to lead and motivate the teams (ground staff and office staff)</li>
<li>Capacity to review and update critical policies and establish new policies as necessary</li>
<li>A real passion to serve and to communicate with the local community</li>
<li>Ability to foster and maintain productive relationships with councillors and with outside bodies</li>
<li>A wish to pursue ongoing professional development as needed</li>
</ul>

<p>This is one of 2 posts with shared responsibility for the effective day-to-day management of the staff and resources engaged in the collection of council tax, non-domestic rates, sundry debt and various other functions within the Revenue Services Division on a rotation basis.</p>

<p>The post also offers the opportunity to play a key role in the strategic management and development of the Division, with a view to providing the highest quality of service in accordance with our mission statement and values. You will have extensive managerial experience and a proven track record of achievement in either a local authority revenues or benefits environment, or a similar large scale, customer focussed and transaction based organisation.</p>
