We are looking for an experienced advocate with at least 2 years post qualification experience to join us as a lawyer responsible for general housing and civil litigation, with emphasis on possession actions, debt recovery and homelessness. You will have experience of possession and injunction proceedings in respect of secure tenants and be able to demonstrate excellent client care skills. Undertaking your own advocacy over a variety of cases, you’ll provide a high quality litigation and advice service to the Children’s Safeguarding and Specialist Services Department and its Director. As well as preparing cases you’ll work with Counsel when they are instructed in matters before the High Court, County Court and Magistrates Court. You’ll investigate and advise on the implications of changing legislation, case law guidance and policy too. And, in addition to advising at Legal Planning meetings, you’ll make recommendations to the Assistant Chief Legal Officer on improvements to procedures and practice.

Your post-qualification experience should include dealing with a broad range of childcare litigation cases. And, as well as a good knowledge of legal matters in childcare litigation, you should have a solid grounding in advocacy. You must also be able to work well both as part of a team and on your own initiative.

Walsall Council is looking for an experienced commercial Solicitor or Barrister. The Councils legal team is a former finalist for the Municipal Journal awards in the Legal Achievement category as well as having received the councils in-house Leadership Award.

We are seeking to appoint a Commercial Solicitor/Barrister.

The successful applicant will be providing commercial and procurement legal advice, managing a wide ranging caseload of both straightforward and complex legal work. The role requires a pro active minded individual, who enjoys innovative and exciting commercial projects aimed at improving the way the council works. There is great potential for personal development which includes deputising for the Service Manager (Commercial team).

Significant experience in commercial contracts is necessary as well as some experience of working on projects in the public sector, although training can be provided.

Starting salary will be dependant on experience.
